Appie Dunnink from Staphorst,
It was nearly impossible for Appie not to get infected with the pigeonbacillus. His father was a fancier since 1968 and therefor it was inevitable that Appie inrolled the sport also. Shortly later his brother Peter did the same. As a tandem the Dunnink family gathered many successes.
Until 1993. Then Appie left his parental home and started to build a new future together with his wife Aaltje. A new place was found and the solo carreer in the sport started.
Appie joined the strong club "de Streekvliegers" also in Staphorst with 75 members amongst them famous fanciers as Klaas Stegeman, Martin Trompetter, Peter van der Haar and Jac Schra. Due to his work and irregular workschedule Appie decided not to fight battles with them weekly. He tried to specialize and peak on special and NPO races.
A succesfull decision turned that to be. Many victories and and teletext listings were gathered over the years.
The pigeons who are at the base of these successes are mainly the famous Janssenbreed. Important part in this are the birds coming from Nic Janssen from Gronsveld of the lines "Oude Geeloger", "Lieveling" and "Superschalie". Up until today there are still direct descendants on the loft. Also the base was build with birds from Jac Schra (Strain Gijzen) and from Van der Haar (Janssen Delbar). And also from clubmember Martin Trompetter ( Janssen/Van de Wegen)
In the everlasting search for better Appie obtained some birds from the Belgian Grandmaster Walter de Rijck from Nijlen. Mainly bred for longer distances under heavy circumstances; Warm weather and headwind.
Only from the best lines moved to Staphorst. Such as 16 descendants from direct brothers and sisters of "Den Dreamer". This acebird is now to be found at Gaby Vandenabeele and became father of the winner National Bourges 2002 against 13.116 competitors.
Also Appie took 8 children from two direct brothers of "Den Derby". Grandchildren of this bird won amongst other 1st National Bourges 1987 against 25.179 pigeons and 1st National Bourges 1995 against 12.682 pigeons. "Den Derby" himself won a first price against 4.728 birds from Etampes.
Furthermore in the pedigree from these pigeons some famous birds can be seen such as "Bourgeke 1” with a 6th National Bourges against 45.684 duiven, “Den Blois” with a first price Blois against 2.967 duiven, “Chateaurouxke” with a.o. 1st Chateauroux against 10.585 duiven, “Kleinzoon Blauwe As”, “Kleinzoon den Derby”, etc. etc.
Via Berry van den Brand there are descendants of “de Witbuik” from Kees Gijzen uit St. Willebrord to be found on the loft of Appie.
